The International Journal of Geography and Earth Sciences Research (IJGESR) invites original, unpublished and academically sound manuscripts in the fields of Geography, Earth Sciences, Environmental Studies, GIS, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis and related interdisciplinary areas. Authors are requested to follow the guidelines below before submitting their manuscript for editorial screening and peer review.

1. Manuscript Categories

IJGESR accepts the following types of scholarly manuscripts:

  • Original research articles
  • Review articles
  • Case studies
  • Conceptual and theoretical papers
  • Field-based geographical studies
  • GIS and remote sensing-based research papers
  • Environmental and earth science studies
  • Short communications and academic notes

2. Subject Scope

Manuscripts should be relevant to the academic scope of the journal. Suitable areas include, but are not limited to, physical geography, human geography, geomorphology, climatology, hydrology, environmental geography, agricultural geography, population geography, urban and regional planning, disaster management, climate change studies, natural resource management, GIS, remote sensing, cartography, spatial modelling and sustainable development.

3. General Submission Requirements

Authors must submit original manuscripts that have not been published previously and are not under consideration by any other journal or publication platform. The manuscript should be written in clear academic English, preferably British English, and should demonstrate originality, methodological clarity, analytical depth and relevance to the journal’s scope.

  • The manuscript should be original and plagiarism-free.
  • The paper should fall within the scope of geography, earth sciences or allied fields.
  • All authors should have made a genuine academic contribution.
  • Data, maps, figures and tables should be accurate and properly cited.
  • Research involving human participants, field surveys or sensitive data should follow ethical standards.

4. Manuscript Structure

Authors are advised to organise their manuscript in the following format:

Title

Clear, concise and relevant to the research theme.

Author Details

Name, affiliation, email address and ORCID ID, where available.

Abstract

Normally 150–250 words summarising aim, method, findings and conclusion.

Keywords

Four to seven keywords relevant to the study.

Introduction

Background, research problem, objectives and significance.

Literature Review

Critical review of relevant previous studies.

Methodology

Data sources, study area, tools, methods and analytical framework.

Results and Discussion

Presentation, interpretation and discussion of findings.

Conclusion

Major findings, implications, limitations and suggestions.

References

Complete list of sources cited in the manuscript.

5. Formatting Guidelines

  • Manuscript file should preferably be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point font for the main text.
  • Use 1.5 line spacing and normal page margins.
  • Headings and subheadings should be clearly numbered or styled consistently.
  • Tables and figures should be placed near the relevant text or at the end of the manuscript.
  • All maps, charts, satellite images and photographs must include captions and sources.
  • Abbreviations should be defined when first used.

6. Tables, Figures, Maps and Images

Tables, figures, maps, graphs, satellite images and diagrams should be clear, readable and relevant to the manuscript. Authors must ensure that all visual materials are original, properly acknowledged or used with permission where required. Maps should include essential cartographic elements such as title, scale, legend, north arrow and source information wherever applicable.

7. Citation and Referencing Style

Authors should use a consistent academic citation and referencing style throughout the manuscript. IJGESR recommends APA 7th edition for most geography, environmental science and social science manuscripts. All in-text citations must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.

Book: Author, A. A. (Year). Title of book. Publisher.

Government Report: Organisation Name. (Year). Title of report. Publisher/Department.

8. Plagiarism and Originality

Submitted manuscripts must be original and free from plagiarism. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all sources are properly cited and that no part of the manuscript violates academic integrity. Manuscripts with plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data or unethical authorship practices may be rejected at any stage of the editorial process.

9. Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to IJGESR are initially screened by the editorial team for scope, formatting, originality and ethical compliance. Suitable manuscripts are then sent for peer review. The final decision may be acceptance, minor revision, major revision or rejection, depending on reviewers’ comments and editorial assessment.

10. Author Responsibilities

  • Submit only original and unpublished work.
  • Ensure accuracy of data, maps, tables, figures and references.
  • Disclose any conflict of interest.
  • Obtain permissions for copyrighted material where necessary.
  • Respond to reviewer and editor comments within the given time.
  • Ensure that all listed authors have approved the final manuscript.

11. Submission Process

Authors may submit their manuscript through the official submission page of the journal. The manuscript should include all required sections, author details, abstract, keywords, references and supporting files, where applicable.
